The incident occurred in Dutchess County at around 10:30 p.m. near Old Hopewell Road in the town of Wappinger.

Initial investigation suggests Graciela Gonzalez of Wappinger attempted to cross Route 9 from the west shoulder in an easterly direction.

The operator of a white 2007 Volkswagen Jetta traveling southbound on Route 9 through a green light signal at the intersection with Old Hopewell Road, failed to observe Gonzalez, and subsequently struck her, police said. Gonzalez was pronounced deceased on scene by paramedics.

There have been no criminal charges at this time.

The investigation remains ongoing, and any witnesses are asked to contact New York State Police at (845) 677-7300.
